There’s nothing better than being in an airplane and having a window seat. Talk about getting perspective. On a clear day, it feels like you can see forever. And this transfers over into how we do business.

Most entrepreneurs stay glued to their desk and assume that they can grow their business that way.  Nope! Not going to happen. You do need to get perspective.

“The best place to invent the future is away from our desk” – Simon Sinek

I tell my clients all the time that moving away from the desk, getting out and away from your business, is actually a secret sauce to getting ahead of the pack. We are not able to grow our business with the same level of thinking that we used to get to current reality in the business.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

The steps that I follow, that took me from zero to half a million dollars in my own business, are simply these:

Tip #1: GET PERSPECTIVE

Much like flying in an airplane, and looking out the window, you get a totally different perspective (or view) of things when you are miles high in the sky. You can see clearly. You can see up, over and beyond the horizons. The same thing happens when you step away from your desk – and out into the world. Make a commitment, at least once a year, to get out and away and work ON your business.

TIP #2: GET A PILOT

Most of us are not qualified to fly an airplane – so, of course, it is critical to have a pilot on board. That just makes sense, right? The same holds true in your business. Most of us are not qualified to take our business to a new level. You’ve got to hire a pilot – a business coach – someone who has been on the journey and who has had success. You want to put yourself in good hands and learn everything that you can to take your business to the level you want to achieve. Great mentors see much more in you than you can see in yourself – they can take you to the 7,000 mile view and give you perspective. That is a critical step to growth and success.

TIP #3: DO THE WORK

It’s always great to get perspective, work with a high level coach, get the 7,000 mile view of your business – and then it’s important to come back down to earth and get to work. Work the plan. Work with your coach. Keep in mind the perspective that you now have – stay focused – celebrate your achievements.

These really are the very simple steps that I take and you can, too.

What holds entrepreneurs back from succeeding in this way?

They are afraid to go to new heights.

They are afraid to invest in their business (scarcity mindset).

They are afraid to try new things.

They don’t work the plan.

They are full of excuses.

It doesn’t have to be this way. You can invent your future. You just need to make a decision that you want to!

What will you do this week to get perspective and grow your business?
