I was at 2 events last week – one (my Mastermind meeting) in Las Vegas and the second, a training session (‘Speak’ program). As I looked around the room in Phoenix at the 100+ entrepreneurs who were attending, it just reminded me (again!) of how many people are still out there struggling on their own in business.
Is that you?
If so, why? That’s all I can ask – WHY? No one can do this alone and yet I constantly see rooms full of people who still feel and believe that they don’t need anyone to help them. It kills me!
WE ALL NEED HELP!
So, I figured out it’s perhaps because you just don’t know where or how to start to find the right mentor. Let me give you a few tips.
1) WHEN
As soon as you decide you are in business, for real. That’s when you need a mentor/coach to work with you. Do it now! (I have 2 coaches – one for building my business and one for helping me to master my speaking skills.) (Hint: you think you have time – you don’t!)
2) WHO
There are many, many different types of business coaches out there these days. Seems like someone is hanging out a shingle every other day, in fact. Do your homework. Find someone who is aligned with your values. Work with someone who has a sense of humor – growing a business can be hard work! Get a coach who has a track record of success – and who has had some failures, too. Check references – talk to people who are working with them and/or who have worked with them. (Ensure those people have done the work though! There are a lot of ‘coach hoppers’ out there who think that they just need to go from one coach to the other, looking for the magic pill. There is none!) (Hint: You think you need to find the ‘perfect person’ – they don’t exist!)
3) WHERE
In this day and age of technology, global travel, etc – it really doesn’t matter where your coach is located. My professional speaking coach is in Arizona and my business coach is in South Carolina (and I’m located south of Toronto). There are many different ways of working with a coach. When you are ‘committed’, you do whatever it takes. I travelled to Scottsdale for a 3-hour planning session with my speaking mentor. Location doesn’t matter. Getting what I need – THAT is what matters. And it should for you, too. (Hint: Many of you let location get in the way – it’s your thinking that’s getting in your way!)
4) WHY
So you ‘stand out’ in your industry, that’s why! It’s crowded at the bottom. Get a mentor/coach and learn from the best of the best. Become the best. Become Amazing! Everyone needs someone to confide in – that’s what has helped me take my business from zero to over half a million in 4 years. Don’t you want that, too? (Hint: Many of you feel like a fraud right now with what you’re doing – get over yourself and get some support.)

My question to you is – who do you really want to work with? To learn from?
Then put my tips into action and let us know what worked for you, ok?
