Time is Money
‘I just don’t have time to do it all.’ How often have you said that to yourself as you make every effort to grow your business?
I hear this all the time from entrepreneurs – whether you’re a newbie and/or a seasoned entrepreneur. And I can tell you why you’re feeling that way, too.
Most of you are working without a plan. And that is just plain stupid. No entrepreneur can succeed at growing their business without a plan and, quite honestly, without a coach (I have 2!). ‘Overwhelm’ starts with the way you think.
The way you think about something will determine the action you take – or don’t take. Paralysis sets in and you don’t accomplish anything. You let your feelings of overwhelm take over, hesitation and doubt set in and that all leads to failure.
You are better than this! People ask me all the time how I get so much done. So, I’m going to give you the simple step process that I follow all the time (if you want more details, reach out to info@patmussieux.com and we can discuss my coaching program where I teach my clients the detailed ‘how to’ on this and so much more!)
1. BUY A BIG WALL CALENDAR FOR YOUR OFFICE.
Make sure it’s one you can use those dry-erasable markers on. Write your 2016 Revenue Target at the very top of the calendar. YES! Put it out there where you can see it all day, every day.
2. PUT A BIG ‘X’ ON YOUR BIRTHDAY.
Don’t you be working your birthday, my friend! That’s a very special day. And for those of you who are new to business, at least you will take ONE day off each year to celebrate and play! I started that in the very beginning. It’s non-negotiable.
3. PLAN YOUR MONTH/WEEK/DAY
Here is how mine breaks down (remember – it’s the 80/20 rule because things change – life happens):
- Mondays and Fridays: mornings – I write (ezine content, interview content, articles, etc.) – Monday afternoon and Fridays are typically held for ‘complimentary strategy calls’ (that’s business development, my friends! – always keep the pipeline full)
- Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday – for the first 3 weeks of the month only – are held for my client coaching calls (and that’s called ‘client fulfillment’ – you sell something, you’ve got to deliver!) – my coaching calls go from 9:30 to 5:30 during those days. I’m at my desk by 8:00 a.m. ish – and the very first hour of each working day is spent on revenue-generating activities – always! It doesn’t matter at what stage of business you are in, this is also non-negotiable! From 9 to 9:30 a.m., I handle email – the timer is on! Focus! Get ‘er done!
- The last week of each month: there is no client fulfillment work done in that time frame. That is kept for personal appointments (doctor, dentist, hair, etc. – I am not running out during the work week in the first 3 weeks for these things – cluster them into this week of the month); or on product development for new programs; or on professional development (I attend my own Mastermind meetings with my coach, or attend conferences); or ……vacation!
- Email is handled daily from 9:00 – 9:30; 1:00-1:30 and 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. I am focused and plow through those emails quickly.
- My personal time on social media (to stay connected, share photos, etc.) is for 5-10 minutes at 8:30 a.m. ish – 1:00 p.m and again around 6 p.m. – that’s it! It’s a time sucker – be careful – be strategic. Set your timer!!! And get back to work – and/or, at the end of your day, get back to your family or some non-work activity.
When you start to deliver good work habits like this, you will reap so many benefits:
- You WILL generate more revenue.
- You will have a ‘formula’ to follow
- You will get out of overwhelm (however, you still need a business plan, people! I can help with that.)
- You will accomplish so much more in your day – and will actually feel energized rather than overwhelmed.
- You will be able to communicate your ‘time plan’ to your clients and team members so they are on the same page as you.
And THAT is my secret sauce to ‘doing so much’ as people are always saying to me. It’s not hard. It’s not really a secret. It’s a success habit. Once you decide that you really WANT to get out of overwhelm and get it together, I assure you – this works.
You WILL make more money – you will communicate better with your team – you will manage your time and energy more efficiently – and you will enjoy your days and your work.
What more could you want?
What will you implement this week?? I’m waiting to hear from you.
