How many times have you heard your ideal prospects tell you “I can’t because …….I don’t have the money, I can’t afford it, It’s too expensive” and so on and so on? Well, you’re not alone – I hear that all the time, too.
One of the biggest challenges facing women entrepreneurs is often the money objection from potential clients. My approach to this is for each one of you to look in the mirror! How often have you said those exact words when faced with an opportunity? Because it’s not just about the money objection ……but for you, it’s about the money mindset!
After you become a millionaire, you can give all of your money away because what’s important is not the million dollars; what’s important is the person you have become in the process of becoming a millionaire.
—Jim Rohn
I’m not implying that each and every one of us wants to be a millionaire. What I do harp on, regularly, is that it takes money to make money. Many of you are holding on to a poverty and scarcity mindset. And even worse than that – you don’t have a VISION…..for your business or for your life. No vision. No dream. No future.
Now don’t be getting all huffy on me – hear me out. Many of you already know my story – at age 55, I made the decision, after leaving my 22 year marriage with virtually nothing – I moved across the country, took my coaching and speaking business off the shelf (where it had been for 5 years as I went through personal turmoil) and actually recreated myself – my life and my business. I had a dream – I had a vision – and I was darn well going to make it come true. I have the power. (and so do you!)
I am working with teachers and mentors and coaches who are helping me to earn a million dollars and I want to share some of what I am learning from them – and I am going to focus only on the money in this article.
HAVE A GOAL!
Some of my goals were really basic – get some clients, make some money and get a roof over my head! Take care of the essentials. However, I also had bigger goals and dreams – and I use vision boards to help bring them into my creative subconscious.
KNOW YOUR NUMBERS!
This is something I learned very early from my coaches. Listen, I’m no different than you – when I first made the BIG (geographical) move, and barely had 2-cents to rub together, I (too) would stack the bills on the table when they came in the mail – and wouldn’t look at them for days. I was afraid. I was running from reality. Same with the credit card statements – very scary! What I quickly learned was that I needed to know my numbers – from utility bills through to credit card bills – through to client numbers, subscribers to my ezine, to revenue each month and so on. Knowing my numbers gives me power – and it gives me focus – and energy (I’m quite competitive……with myself, in particular). So quit hiding behind fear – map out your numbers and take control.
GET A BOOK-KEEPER AND LEARN FROM YOUR BOOK-KEEPER. I’m no expert when it comes to doing my books – so I don’t do them. I hired the right person and let them handle that part of the business. And YOU have no business doing your own books if that is not your area of expertise. I’m telling you – this made a huge difference in my business.
LEARN ABOUT DEBT – AND MAKE SOLID INVESTMENTS IN YOUR BUSINESS. There is good debt and bad debt. Bad debt is when you head out and get ANOTHER pair of shoes when you obviously don’t need them. Good debt is investing in yourself and in your business – you cannot grow a business to a million dollars without investing in professional development, travel, conferences, coaching, attending/hosting live events and so much more. This is all part of doing business.
Conclusion:
“Don’t wish it were easier, wish you were better. Don’t wish for fewer problems, wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenges, wish for more wisdom.”
—Earl Shoaf
Figure out the ‘why’ of your business – identify your goals and your dreams – know your numbers – and get out there and make some money – make ‘it’ happen. You only have one life to live – and you have the power to make the changes necessary to have ‘it’.
