How to End the Year with a Bang
Only 8 weeks left in 2015. I’m hearing some trepidation in the voices of many entrepreneurs who have not reached their goals for the year – and we are already into November.
I’ve always been a very goal-oriented person so it is with great excitement that I count the weeks and ramp up my activities to surpass my goals. Many of you feel the same way, I know.
For those of you who are feeling frustrated, disappointed and challenged, I want to give you a few steps that you can take immediately to get you where you want to be by end of December. It’s not that complicated but you will want to roll up your sleeves and get going.
Here’s what I recommend:
1. IDENTIFY WHAT YOU WANT SPECIFICALLY.
That’s a pretty general statement, I know. But what DO you want? Is it more clients? Is it more revenue? Is it more time with family, or time for yourself? Get very specific with your goals.
2. WRITE THEM DOWN.
What gets written, gets measured. What gets measured, gets done. This is an easy step in the whole process. Grab your calendar and write your goals for each week and keep it right in front of your face for the next 8 weeks.
3. SHIFT YOUR THINKING.
Some of you are thinking you’ve ONLY got 8 weeks to reach your goals. Some of you are thinking – WOW, I have a FULL 8 weeks to make this happen. It’s all in the way you think about things that makes the difference. You can do this!
4. BREAK IT DOWN.
Stop thinking about your goals in terms of the WHOLE thing or the BIG picture. Break it down. If you want to generate an additional $16,000 in revenue – then that breaks down to be $8,000 per month, which then becomes $2,000 per week, which then becomes $400 per day (for a 5-day week). See, easy-peasy! And that’s only $200 per half day. How many calls do you need to make to generate that revenue? Start dialing……..
5. TRACK YOUR PROGRESS.
Keep track, on an hourly basis, of how well you are doing. This is important. If by noon on Day 2 of the first month you haven’t generated any revenue, it’s time to kick it up a notch. But you won’t know unless you are tracking your calls and your revenue. This is a habit of successful entrepreneurs.
6. GET AN ACCOUNTABILITY BUDDY.
This makes all the difference in the world! Get a buddy – work together – hold each other accountable and hold your feet to the fire! This is serious business. It’s much more fun with a buddy and especially if/when you choose someone who is ‘just that much’ more successful than you. Try it!
7. CELEBRATE EVERY SUCCESS.
Big or small – it doesn’t matter. Be sure to celebrate each success along the way over the next 8 weeks. This too is a habit of successful entrepreneurs. Get used to it and start doing it now. This will build your confidence so you can go after bigger things in the new year.
And then there are some of you who will just sit in front of your computer and try to figure out how to do any of this! Then you need to get a business coach – and get one TODAY. Do you want next year to look exactly like this year? NO? Well, then, something needs to change.
Isn’t it time to end the year with a bang?
What step will you take this week?? I’m waiting to hear from you.
How about starting the year with a big bang! Thanks for all your amazing insight.
I have been in several different businesses that I started from scratch. However, I am now at the stage where I say NEXT???
I don’t want to go down the same road for the rest of my healthy, curious life.
It is exciting to think of NEXT!!!
Thank you Pat for your thoughts and sharing with us.
