Hi everyone, it’s Pat here, coming to you live from my sunny, bright living room today. I just wanted the flash of light coming in here while I take some time to talk to you about a really important topic, and one that I’ve heard discussed quite a bit, particularly this whole month of January.
The title of this Facebook Live is a little bit misleading, and yet again, it’s not. I want to talk to you about this important topic. I was playing with the words there, to die(t) or not to die(t).
What I want to talk about is the fact that we are this close to the end of January, and for any of us who have been around for a while, a few years, a few decades, particularly in the coaching industry, I’m going to speak to that, we know that at the beginning of January, people are gung ho about their goals, and typically the number one goal is around health and wellness. “I’m going to quit smoking, I’m going to lose weight, I’m going to get more sleep.” All of those really fabulous goals.
What I observe and what I’ve experienced myself – guilty – is that by this point in time, at this point in January, the goals have gone out the window. So I wanted to speak to that because fortunately, I’ve been blessed in having worked with Lou Tice and the Pacific Institute over 10 years and living this education for probably close to 30 years now. One thing I know for sure is one of the reasons that the goals go out the window is because we’re not clear on why we’re doing it. We’re not bought in enough. We don’t have a clear vision. We’re not that committed.
Honestly, I didn’t make any notes, as I usually do for this Facebook Live, because really what I want to do is extend an invitation to you.
I want to talk to you about three topics that are near and dear to my heart right now, and the first part is to die(t) or not to die(t), and I want to talk about health and wellness because, seriously, in this day and age of INFObesity, and Dr. Sam Horn coined that phrase, we get so much information coming at us. We’re overwhelmed, and what I see all around me is that people are overwhelmed and stressed, in general. One of the reasons, in my observation, is because they’re not taking care of themselves. I see people who are stressed. They’re overwhelmed. Put in the comments if that’s you and you can relate to any of this.
People aren’t getting their sleep. That’s why Ariana Huffington had a bestselling book, for crying out loud, about sleep and talking about the value of naps.
People aren’t eating properly. I read an article this morning, and I think it was Dr. Mark Hyman who was talking about the fact that we have raised a generation who don’t know how to cook because we have taken them through the fast food line-ups; we’ve taken them into the convenience stores. They don’t know how to cook, and so we’ve created a disaster and we’re living that disaster.
I wanted to talk to you about that, first and foremost, because I was telling some friends earlier today that I’m going to create some t-shirts, and the t-shirts are going to say something to the effect that I have been successful, I am healthy, and I am building my wealth, even at my age. I get that question a lot, “How do you keep going at your age? How do you run through those big airports, and stay upright and energized, and hop on stage or into meetings at your age?”
I’m going to share some of my secrets with you, my secret sauce, if you will. For the time we have here today, I’m only going to touch on a few, but again, stay with me. I have an invitation for you at the end of this.
I’ve created a whole new theme for this year, and that is transform your body, transform your life, to transform your business. I put business intentionally at the end because what I see is that people are literally and figuratively “killing themselves” because of their focus, and they’re putting all of their energy and drive into the business.
Here’s the thing. When you don’t have your health, you’ve got nothing, and those of you who know me and are in my tight circle, you know that my circle is dealing with a lot of major health issues. And there but for the grace of God, is my first expression go I, but also there because I take care of myself, and many people keep asking me how do I do it? So I’m going to talk to you. I’m going to share a few tips with you here and then have my invitation.
I want to talk to you about the way that I transform my body. I’d say over the last year-and-a-half to two years I’ve lost close to 40 pounds. I’ve been to the doctor regularly. All of my numbers are excellent. My bone density is that of a teenager. My doctor said, “Whatever you’re doing, just keep doing it.” People keep saying to me, “What are you doing?” So I’m going to tell you.
One of the things I’m doing – and you know I have five non-negotiables in my life – is hydration. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. It’s the solution to so many things. Headaches, for one. Hydrate.
Meditation is second. I stop. I mediate at noon and I mediate before I go to bed.
The third one is exercise. Five days a week, at minimum. I’m still praying for snow for this weekend so I can go cross-country skiing, but failing that, I’ll be moving my body. I’m moving my joints constantly.
Sleep is absolutely right up there at the top. I get between probably eight to 10 hours of sleep a night, and I have some techniques around that that support that kind of deep, productive sleep.
Nutrition, exercise, sleep, hydration and mediation; my five non-negotiables.
With respect to nutrition, one of the things I hear people saying all the time is, “I have to eat more salads; I have to eat more greens.” You’re never going to get all of the vitamins, nutrients and minerals, so this is one of the products that I use. I wanted to share some of these with you today. It’s from Isagenix, IsaGreens. I put it right into my shake and I know, check, I’m good for the day.
The other thing that I have twice a day are my shakes. Listen, you know I’m a chocolate girl, right? Chocolate Mint. Oh my goodness, absolutely to die for. This is my lunch shake. My morning shake is the shake with the Greens with the vanilla. When I’m on the run, and you know I travel a lot, and when I’m on an airplane I’m not buying that crappy food, so my go-to is my protein bar. Yes, Chocolate Decadent. Those are some of the things, along with the hydration, that I use on a daily basis at home, but absolutely support me when I’m on the road.
Here’s the thing also. Sometimes the travel days are long. Next week I have a long travel day, so I take my mobile and my portable workout stuff with me. I take my jump rope with me and my running shoes, at a minimum. They go in the suitcase first. It’s a no excuses approach. I don’t have to go down to the gym. I go out in the hallway, actually, in the hotels, and I use my jump rope. Five minutes, even.
I have a lot of tips around that I want to share with you, but secondly, transforming your life. Here’s the other piece I see happening. Business is eating up your time, it’s eating up your energy, and where you don’t have a grip on your health, it’s going to head toward disaster. So what I’m focusing on this year is helping people create a lifestyle that they want, that they deserve, that they’ve dreamed about, and then create the business that supports that lifestyle.
One of the starting points, the tool I use, is this. It’s a life balance wheel. I learned about this from Lou Tice in 1990, and I’ve used it every six months ever since to create the kind of life I want. I’m going to be teaching people my tools on first creating the vision, then the life balance wheel, then creating goals and moving that into action steps on the calendar.
Again, if you know me at all, my whole focus is simplicity. I work with index cards. I focus on three things a day. I focus on three themes or categories for the year. This year it’s transform my body, transform my life, transform my business. I’m going to be sharing more about some of these tools because they’re simple, they’re easy, and they work, and if they work, why wouldn’t you use them? And when they work, rinse and repeat.
The last part of it, when people ask me all of the time, “How do you keep that business going?” Again, I keep a clear focus. I know exactly what I do in working with entrepreneurs. My business is coaching and speaking. I’m a professional speaker and I’m a business coach, and I’m going to integrate health and wellness into my business coaching this year so I can have, all around me, a healthier, more energized, happy, enthusiastic group of entrepreneurs.
There are two key books that have really supported me throughout my business and throughout my life, and the first one I recommend is this one. Those of you who are on here, you know I do this one, The Power of Focus. This book, I’ve had this for years and I recommend it, and I recommend it, and I recommend it. The Power of Focus.
One of the reasons we’re so stressed and overwhelmed is because we’re distracted, and as entrepreneurs, there are bright shiny objects coming at you all of the time. All those bright shiny objects, and we want to go grab them all, which supports our habit of procrastination, which is a poverty habit.
The second one that I learned about and implemented immediately, and certainly over the past few years, has been this one by Bill Hybels, Simplify. This book is gold. This is for you, Leslie. This book is pure gold.
Again, I’ve been on here about 10 minutes now. I wanted to just give you some highlights and give you some tips, but more importantly, I wanted to give you an invitation. Next Tuesday, exactly at this time, I’m going to host the world premiere of my new approach to improving your health, to improve your life, to grow your business with joy, and to get past that sense of duty, overwhelm, stress, and pressure.
Next Tuesday, we’re going to put the link in here, you can join me. Free training, two hours on Zoom, and the whole theme is transform your body. I’m going to go deeper into health and wellness techniques, I’m going to give you the tools, there are going to be handouts, there will be an action plan to transform your body, to transform your life, so you are living the life that you deserve.
Listen, you all think you have time. That’s why I intentionally sat, right there, in front of my super big clock. We think we have time. We don’t. If you run in my circle right now and you were with some of my friends who are battling some tough, tough illnesses, you would come to recognize soon what’s important and who’s important. So I want you to get a grip. I want you to come on this journey with me. Then we’re going to talk about my simple tools and my action plan for 2018 to transform your business, and I’m going to make an offer to you that you’ll never hear from me again. Next Tuesday, we’ll put the information in here. I want you to grab a seat, tell a friend. This is important stuff. Health is our wealth. We have to take care of us, and I’m going to give you what’s worked for me, and it has worked for me, and why keep it to myself.
There you go. Put your comments in there. Put any questions in there. I’ll be back as soon as I sign off to go back in and answer your questions, and I’ll be posting the link. It’s simply http://hirepat.com/transform. I almost forgot the word for a moment, but I am taking brain-boosting pills to feed my brain, so that’s all going to get better too.
Join me next Tuesday. I’m going to go into depth. Like I said, you’ll get the handouts and you’ll get the action plan. Let’s get a grip on this. It will be the start of February all ready. Let’s get our body in shape. Let’s get our mind in shape. Let’s get a grip on our life so you’re not sitting back and living a life of regrets, “I wish. I wish I had have. I wish I could have.” Without your health, you can’t be doing a lot of things.
Join me, won’t you? I’d be delighted to have you, your friends, and your colleagues. Hit the share button, hit the love button, and I’ll be watching for your registration, and I’ll look for you next Tuesday on Zoom. Thanks for being with me right here, right now, and I’ll be back in a week. Bye everyone.
