This is the time of year when I welcome change – it’s a time when I assess, review and change many things about my business. When is the last time you had a close look at your systems, processes, structures, vendors, team, etc.? As you grow and develop your business, it’s critical that you make time to review that which supports your business too.
So, here are some of the things I review – and I recommend that you consider doing this also.
1. Vision Board
One of the first things I do, following the July 1st long weekend, is to review my Vision board for the year. Am I on track? Are all things on the board still relevant? Is that what I still want to have happen in my life and in my business? I often make some major changes to the vision board because, these days, with the amazing coach that I am working with – change comes quickly (as does success!), so the vision board needs to reflect my quantum leaps.
2. Finances
This is the time of year when I review my banking relationships, my shopping cart vendor, my credit cards, and everything related to finances. Am I happy with the service? Are the interest rates acceptable? Are there better offers out there?
3. My Will
While I do review this every 6 months, I don’t necessarily make any changes. I do, however, ensure that the person designated as my ‘power of attorney’ is aware of the location of the will, my rationale with respect to some of the contents (especially when it comes to my business), names and contact information of my team members, bankers, and other key figures in my business life. It’s important, to me, that the person handling my ‘personal care directives’ is up to date with my wishes also.
4. Technology
This is one area that I always upgrade in the summer – I do a review of software programs, computer/laptop, communication devices (cell phone/I-Phone, etc) – along with vendors, suppliers and so on – and give serious consideration to upgrading that which I am working with. I also review passwords, subscriptions, and anything else related to my technological world. I also make a commitment to learn at least one more thing in this regard!
5. My Team
Are the people who are working with me the right people, based on the growth of my business? Do they have the right skills and competencies? Do they support my vision and my policies/procedures? Do I need to add to the team so that we have the diversity in skills that I need right now? How is communication with the team – do I need to make some changes and improvements in that area?
6. Time Management
Are my systems and processes working to support my business growth? What changes do I need to make with respect to managing my time and energy and priorities? (Am I having fun? – I always assess this!!!!)
7. Mindset
Am I mentally prepared for the kind of business growth and development that I goal-set to accomplish this year? What changes in thinking do I need to make – as my revenues, profits and client numbers increase? Who do I need to mentor me in this regard? Where am I holding myself back – and why?
These are all the things that I make time to review and assess as we head into the last 6 months of the year. Business growth and development – AND personal growth and development – are part of my strategy as I work with my own coach this year.
What are you doing to prepare for these next 6 months?
Who are you working with to ensure growth and accountability?
It is summertime and the ‘living is easy’ – and that is the perfect time to stop, think and make the changes that you deem necessary. If you are serious about being in business – then get serious about some of the items listed above.
