3 Ways to Stay Motivated in December
“I’m so busy!” So many entrepreneurs are getting caught up in that story that prospects are telling them which makes it easy to think that you can’t make any sales in December.
“Lack of direction, not lack of time, is the problem. We all have twenty-four hour days”. – Zig Ziglar
One of the reasons entrepreneurs struggle in December is because they do buy into the stories. Here’s what I know for sure – when your house is on fire, you want the Fire Department to show up NOW – not next month! When you are talking to your prospects, the ideal prospects, they want a solution NOW – not next month.
It’s easy to fall into the trap of not making sales calls, not sending out emails, not networking with prospects because it’s a certain time of year, or a certain holiday. Don’t fall into that trap. For those of you who do, it’s because you are looking for excuses rather than doing the work.
This is the time of year when people are spending money – why not have them spend it on you, on your products and on your services? Not only are you leaving money on the table but you are not being of service to the people who really need you.
In my experience, there are 3 ways to stay motivated in the month of December.
1. CHANGE THE WAY YOU THINK.
This should be exciting for you because you know you can help put out the fire. Of course people are busy in December – but listen, isn’t that what we hear from people ALL the time now. “Hey, how are ya?” – ‘Oh, busy……so busy!” So, what makes December any different? Nothing! It’s what you choose to believe when you are approaching people that makes the difference. Come from a mindset of service rather than one of sales – and let people know you have a solution. No one wants to wait a month, or longer, when they are looking to solve a problem, a pain or improve in some area of their life. Be that life-saver.
2. MAKE IT A GAME.
I set certain sales goals for myself for the month of December. I want to reach my stretch goals for the year – so I ‘supersize’ my efforts at this particular time of year. I set a monthly, weekly, daily and hourly goal – and I reward myself for reaching those goals. I often invite a colleague to ‘play along with me’ to just get the adrenaline moving a bit faster. It’s much more fun when you’re achieving goals, serving people and making money along with a colleague.
3. TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT.
Position yourself as unique in the market. Put together a ‘new year’ special and bonus people who pay a deposit NOW to get started NOW. For those of you in the health and wellness industry, connect with people who typically would wait for the new year – and help them with a ‘transition plan’ that would kick in on Dec. 26 for example. I supersize my bonus offering when someone commits to coaching with me right now! There’s no time like the present – and often, this is the time when I am doing the most MINDSET coaching.
As people are wrapping up the year and starting to think about 2016, be the one who is there to offer support and service. Be the one who speaks about ‘living in the now’ – be the encourager – be the inspiration. Life is short and it doesn’t stop just because there’s a holiday coming up.
I’ll tell you what DOES happen…..and that is that YOU stop. You are the one telling yourselves the story that people are too busy, they don’t want to be bothered, they don’t have the money right now ……..lalalalala. Stop hiding behind excuses and stories. Find the people who having burning houses and get out there to help them. And make some money while you’re doing it! Business does not stop. YOU stop.
Listen – there’s nothing more motivating or rewarding than knowing, at the end of December, you have cash in the bank, you’ve helped someone with a problem and you have given it your all!
Where are you stopping YOU right now from being of service to an ideal prospect!?
What is one thing you can do this week to break that pattern?
