It’s summertime and the living is easy. That is probably one of the deadliest statements I hear many entrepreneurs making these days!

When you are in business, ‘it’ never stops.   Yes, perhaps YOU need to take a bit of a break – but business goes on. Most of us are not in the ‘life or death’ business, so there are plenty of ways to keep the wheels turning even though you may be on vacation somewhere with family and/or friends.

A few years ago, in the month of July, I was told that ‘everyone goes to the cottage’ and that ‘there is no business to be done in July’. I had just moved to this new city and was making every effort to re-launch my business and make some money. I was devastated to be hearing this statement constantly – but I did NOT buy into that ‘truth’. In fact, I ramped up my marketing efforts and increased my revenue by 1,000% that July!! (I just love telling this story! It gives many of you hope, I know.)

But, here’s the thing – yes, it is important to take a break and re-charge. However, not at the expense of your business. The wheels must keep on turning.

There are plenty of ways to make this happen. Here are a few ways I will be doing this as I head out to my own vacation to the coast of Newfoundland.

 #1 – PRE-WRITE YOUR NEWSLETTERS.

I thoroughly believe in being consistent when it comes to connecting with your community. When I am away, I pre-write my articles that go out each Thursday (and we haven’t missed a beat in 6 years!). It’s easy to do – there’s lots of great content and ideas floating around in the media – grab a key story and write your point of view. Easy-peasy.

#2 –SHOOT VIDEO.

Sometimes it is fun to mix it up a little. Change is a good thing – and it’s good for YOU, too, to get creative and innovative. I like to shoot ‘videos on the run’ when I am away and travelling. It gives your community and clients a different perspective. I check out different businesses (from ice cream shops to tourist centers) and shoot a quick video on what I think works or doesn’t work from my experience with them. It’s fun – try it!

#3 –GET YOUR TEAM TO WRITE YOUR ARTICLE.

This can be fun, too – have one of your team members hop in and write an article based on their area of expertise. It makes it interesting for the reader as well. I always write from a business coaching/speaking perspective – wouldn’t you like to read what one of my team members has to say regarding technology, social media, on line business management, etc? I know I would!

Get creative this summer – stay connected – and give everyone a break by coming from a different perspective. But do keep the doors open and keep business moving forward – otherwise, September will be awfully painful for you! And we don’t want that to happen……..

STAY TUNED AND SEE WHAT WE DECIDE TO DO THROUGHOUT JULY!

Please share your thoughts!
